Jesus the Unknown

Slowly, solemnly, the invisible sun rises over the world – the great luminary of the End. All mankind vaguely feels it, like a blind man feels the warmth of the rising sun. Only one of the nations sees it – Israel; Israel is seen most clearly by the Galilean crowds that follow Jesus; even more clearly – those hundreds of people who heard Jesus on the Mount of Beatitudes; His disciples are still more clear. The full light of the End illumines only one person on earth – Jesus Himself.

If the earth does not freeze before the kingdom of God comes upon it, it may be only because the sun of the Lord's year has warmed it to the very heart.

The day of the multiplication of the loaves, the noon of Jesus' life, is the point of the greatest approach of the great luminary of the End to the earth, of the Kingdom of God to humanity. It seems that on this very day the disciples sent by Jesus to preach

returned to Him with joy (Luke 10:17),

… and they told him all that they had done and taught. (Mark 6:30.)

In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I praise thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast concealed these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. Yes, Father! for such was Thy good pleasure. (Luke 10:21.)

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, for I am meek and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (Matt. 11:28-30).

No matter how much mankind forgets the One Who said this, it will someday remember; no matter how much he doubts, he will one day believe that by Him the world will be saved.

6. And the world did not recognize him

I

He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him. (John 1:10-11.)

This mystery – the mystery of the entire life of the man Jesus – was overheard in His heart by one of all the disciples, John.
