Book of Hours

RISING FROM SLEEP

Through the prayers of our holy fathers, O Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us.

Glory to Thee, O our God, glory to Thee.

The Trisagion. Glory, and now: Most Holy Trinity: Lord, have mercy. (3) Glory, and now: Our Father:

Troparia to the Most Holy Trinity

Rising from sleep, we fall down before Thee, O Good One, / and we proclaim the angelic song to Thee, O Mighty One: / "Holy, Holy, Holy Thou art, O God, / through the prayers of the Mother of God, have mercy on us!"

Glory: From bed and from sleep Thou hast raised me, O Lord! / Enlighten my mind and heart, / and open my mouth, / to sing to Thee, Holy Trinity: / "Holy, Holy, Holy Thou, O God, / through the prayers of the Mother of God, have mercy on us!"

And now: Suddenly the Judge will come, / and the works of each one will be revealed. / But in fear let us cry out at midnight: / "Holy, Holy, Holy Thou art, O God, / through the prayers of the Mother of God, have mercy on us!"

Lord, have mercy. (12)

Prayer to the Most Holy Trinity

Rising from my sleep, I thank Thee, Holy Trinity, that in Thy great goodness and long-suffering, Thou didst not be angry with me, slothful and sinful, and did not destroy me with my iniquities, but showed me Thy usual love for mankind, and raised me, lying in senselessness, so that I might turn to Thee early in the morning and glorify Thy power. And now enlighten the eyes of my thoughts, open my mouth, that I may learn Thy word, and understand Thy commandments, and do Thy will, and sing praises to Thee from the heart, and sing Thy all-holy name, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and always, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

A Different Prayer

Glory to Thee, O King, God Almighty! By Thy divine and humane providence, Thou hast vouchsafed me, a sinner and unworthy from sleep, to arise and reach the entrance to Thy holy temple. Receive, O Lord, the voice of Thy supplication, as the voice of Thy holy and immaterial Powers, and be well pleased, that with a pure heart and a humble spirit the praise of my filthy lips may be brought unto Thee, that I also may become a partaker of the wise virgins with the shining lamp of my soul, and glorify Thee, in the Father and Spirit, God the Word. Amen

MIDNIGHT OFFICE

Priest: Blessed be our God always, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages.

Reader: Amen. Glory to Thee, O our God, glory to Thee.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, Who dwells everywhere and fills all things, Giver of good things and life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all defilement, and save, O Good One, our souls.
