A COLLECTION OF EPISTLES

13 Therefore be subject to every human rulership, unto the Lord: whether to the king as the supreme authority,

14 For it is the will of God that we should stop the ignorance of foolish men when we do good, 16 as freemen, not as those who use freedom to cover up evil, but as servants of God.

17 Honor all, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.

18 Servants, with all fear obey your masters, not only good and meek, but also harsh.

19 For this is pleasing to God, if a man, thinking of God, endures sorrows, suffering unjustly.

20 For what kind of praise is it if you endure to be beaten for your faults? But if you endure doing good and suffering, it is pleasing to God.

21 For ye have been called unto this, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that we might follow in his footsteps.

22 He committed no sin, and there was no flattery in His mouth.

23 Being reviled, he did not reproach one another; suffering, he did not threaten, but committed it to the Righteous Judge.

24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having been delivered from sins, might live for righteousness: by his stripes you may be healed.

25 For you were like wandering sheep (having no shepherd), but you have now returned to the Shepherd and Keeper of your souls.

1 And ye also wives, be subject to your husbands, that those of them that do not obey the word may be gained by the life of their wives without a word,

2 When they see your pure, God-fearing life.

3 Let not the outward plaiting of the hair be your adornment, nor the headdresses of gold, nor the finery of the garments,

4 but the hidden man of the heart is in the incorruptible beauty of a meek and silent spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.

5 Thus also the holy women, who trusted in God, adorned themselves in obedience to their husbands.

6 Thus Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You are her children, if you do good and are not troubled by any fear.
