A COLLECTION OF EPISTLES

THE EPISTLE TO THE HEBREWS

1

1 God, who spoke many times and in many ways to the fathers in the prophets,

2 In these last days he has spoken to us in the Son, whom he has made heir of all things, through whom also he created the worlds.

3 And this one, being the brightness of glory, and the image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, having made atonement for our sins, sat down at the right hand of majesty on high,

4 being so much more excellent than the angels, as he inherited a more glorious name before them.

5 For to whom of the angels did God say, 'Thou art my Son, I have begotten thee this day?' And again: Will I be His Father, and He will be My Son?

6 Likewise, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, "And let all the angels of God worship him."

7 Of the angels it is said, Thou makest spirits by thy angels, and by thy ministers a flaming fire.

8 And of the Son, Thy throne, O God, for ever and ever; the scepter of Thy kingdom is the scepter of righteousness.

9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hast hated iniquity: therefore hast thou anointed thee, O God thy God, with the oil of joy more than thy fellow-partakers.

10 And, In the beginning, O Lord, thou didst founded the earth, and the heavens are the work of thy hands;

11 they shall perish, but Thou remainest; and all will be worn out like a garment,

12 And thou shalt roll them up like garments, and they shall be changed; but Thou art the same, and Thy years shall not end.

13 To which of the angels did God ever say, 'Sit at my right hand, till I make thy enemies thy footstool?'

14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent to minister to those who are to inherit salvation?

1 Therefore we must be especially attentive to what we hear, lest we fall away.

2 For if the word spoken by angels was firm, and every transgression and disobedience received a righteous recompense,

3 how shall we escape, by neglecting a little salvation, which, having first been preached by the Lord, was established in us by those who heard of him,

4 Bearing witness from God by signs and wonders, and divers powers, and by the giving of the Holy Ghost according to His will?

5 For it was not to angels that God subdued the world to come, of which we speak;
