Bible. Books of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments

40 Thou hast girded me with strength for war, and hast brought down before me those who rise up against me;

41 Thou turnest unto me the rear of my enemies, and I destroy them that hate me.

42 They cry out, but there is no one to save, to the Lord, but he hearkens not to them.

43 I scatter them like the dust of the earth, I wash them like the dirt of the street, and trample them down.

44 Thou hast delivered me from the rebellion of my people; Thou hast preserved me, that I may be my head over the foreigners; a people I did not know serve me.

45 Foreigners caress me before me; they obey me when they hear about me.

46 The foreigners turn pale and tremble in their fortifications.

47 As the Lord lives, and blessed is my defender! May God be exalted, the refuge of my salvation,

48 God who avenges me and subdues the nations to me

49 And he who delivers me from my enemies! Above those who rise up against me Thou hast exalted me; Thou hast delivered me from a cruel man.

50 Therefore I will praise you, O Lord, among the foreigners, and I will sing to your name,

51 Who magnificently saves His king, and shows mercy to His anointed one David and his seed for ever!

Chapter 23

1 These are the last words of David, the utterance of David the son of Jesse, the utterance of a man set high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet singer of Israel:

2 The Spirit of the Lord speaks in me, and His word is on my tongue.

3 The God of Israel said, the rock of Israel said of me, He that domineth dominion over men shall be righteous, ruling in the fear of God.

4 And as at the dawn of the morning, when the sun rises in a cloudless sky, grass grows out of the earth because of the radiance after the rain,

5 Is not my house with God? For he hath made an everlasting covenant with me, firm and immutable. Is not this how all my salvation and all my will proceed from Him?

6 But the wicked will be like thorns thrown out, which they do not take with their hands;

7 But whoever touches it is armed with iron or the wood of the spear, and they burn him with fire on the spot.

8 These are the names of the valiant in David: Isboseth the Ahamanites, chief of the three; and he lifted up his spear against eight hundred men, and smote them once.
