And they put their bread upon their asses, and departed from thence.

And one of them opened his sack to give food to his ass at his lodging for the night, and saw his money in the opening of his sack,

And he said to his brethren, My money is restored; Here it is in my bag. And their hearts were troubled, and they said to one another with trembling, What has God done to us?

And they came to Jacob their father in the land of Canaan, and told him all that had happened to them, saying,

The ruler of that land spoke harshly to us, and took us for spies of that land.

And we said to him, 'We are honest men; we were not spies;

We are twelve brethren, sons of our father; one is gone, and the youngest is now with our father in the land of Canaan.

And the ruler of the land said to us, 'This is how I will know whether you are honest men: leave with me one brother of you, and you take bread for the famine of your families, and go,

And bring unto me your youngest brother; and I know that you are not spies, but honest people; I will give you your brother, and you may work in this land.

And as they emptied their sacks, behold, every man had a bundle of his money in his bag. And when they saw the bundles of their silver, they and their father, and they were afraid.

And Jacob their father said to them, 'You have deprived me of my children: Joseph is gone, and Simeon is gone, and you want to take Benjamin, all this is against me!'

And Reuben said to his father, saying, 'Kill my two sons, if I do not bring him to you; give him into my hands; I will return it to you.

He said, 'My son will not go with you; for his brother died, and he was left alone; if misfortune befalls him on the path you take, then you will bring my gray hair with sorrow to the grave.
