Bible. Books of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments

33 And the ruler of the land said to us, 'This is how I will know whether you are honest men: leave with me one brother of you, and you take bread for the famine of your families, and go,

34 And bring unto me your youngest brother; and I know that you are not spies, but honest people; I will give you your brother, and you may work in this land.

35 And as they emptied their sacks, behold, every man had a bundle of his money in his bag. And when they saw the bundles of their silver, they and their father, and they were afraid.

36 And Jacob their father said to them, 'You have deprived me of my children: Joseph is gone, and Simeon is gone, and you want to take Benjamin, all this is against me!'

37 And Reuben said to his father, saying, 'Kill my two sons, if I do not bring him to you; give him into my hands; I will return it to you.

38 He said, 'My son will not go with you; for his brother died, and he was left alone; if misfortune befalls him on the path you take, then you will bring my gray hair with sorrow to the grave.

Chapter 43

1 Hunger intensified on the land.

2 And when they had eaten the bread which they had brought from Egypt, then their father said to them, 'Go again, and buy us some food.'

3 And Judas said unto him, saying, That man hath made a resolute statement unto us, saying, Come not to me in thy face, unless thy brother be with thee.

4 If thou shalt send our brother with us, let us go and buy thee food,

5 but if you do not send, we will not go, for that man said to us, 'Do not appear to me in your face, unless your brother is with you.'

6 Israel said, "Why have you done me such evil, saying to that man that you have another brother?"

7 And they said, 'That man inquired about us and about our kinship, saying, 'Is your father still alive?' Do you have a brother? We told him about these questions. Could we have known that he would say, "Bring your brother?"
