Bible. Books of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments

28 And Jacob dwelt in the land of Egypt seventeen years; and the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were one hundred and forty-seven years.

29 And the time came for Israel to die, and he called his son Joseph, and said to him, 'If I have found favor in your eyes, put your hand under my thigh, and swear that you will show me mercy and righteousness, and will not bury me in Egypt,

30 that I may lie down with my fathers; you will bring me out of Egypt and bury me in their tomb. And Joseph said, I will do according to thy word.

31 And he said, 'Swear to me.' And I swore to him. And Israel bowed down at the head of the bed. [6]

Chapter 48

1 And they said unto Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick. And he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

2 And they gave word to James, and said, Behold, Joseph thy son is coming unto thee. Israel gathered their strength and sat up on the bed.

3 And Jacob said unto Joseph, The Almighty God hath appeared unto me in Lusa, in the land of Canaan, and hath blessed me,

4 And he said unto me, Behold, I will spread thee, and multiply thee, and will make of thee a multitude of nations, and I will give this land to thy seed after thee, for an everlasting possession.

5 And now thy two sons, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt, before I came unto thee in Egypt, they are mine; Ephraim and Manasseh, like Reuben and Simeon, shall be mine;

6 And thy children, which shall be born of thee after them, shall be thine; they shall be called by the name of their brethren in their inheritance.

7 And it came to pass, as I was going out of Mesopotamia, that Rachel died among me in the land of Canaan, on the way, a little before Ephrathah, and I buried her there on the road to Ephrathah, which is now Bethlehem.

8 And Israel saw the sons of Joseph, and said, Who are these?

9 And Joseph said to his father, 'These are my sons, whom God has given me here.' [Jacob] said, "Bring them to me, and I will bless them."
