Chapter 40

And the Lord answered Job out of the storm, and said,

Gird up thy loins like a man: I will ask thee, and thou shalt explain unto me.

Wilt thou overthrow my judgment, accuse me, that thou mayest justify thyself?

Do you have a muscle like God's? And can you thunder with a voice like Him?

Adorn thyself therefore with majesty and glory, clothe thyself with splendor and splendor;

Pour out the fury of thy wrath, look upon all that is proud, and humble it;

Look upon all the haughty, and humble them, and crush the wicked in their places.

Bury them all in the ground, and cover their faces with darkness.

Then will I also acknowledge that thy right hand is able to save thee.

Behold the hippopotamus whom I have created, even as I have created you; he eats grass like an ox;

Behold, his strength is in his loins, and his strength is in the muscles of his belly;

He turns his tail like a cedar; and the sinews of his thighs are intertwined;

His feet are like brass pipes; his bones are like bars of iron;

This is the top of the ways of God; only He who created it can draw His sword to it;

The mountains bring him food, and there all the beasts of the field play;

He lies under the shady trees, under the reeds, and in the marshes;

The shady trees cover him with their shadow; willows by the streams surround him;

Behold, he drinks of the river, and is not in a hurry; he remains calm, even though the Jordan rushes to his mouth.

Shall any man take him in his sight, and pierce his nose with a hook?

Can thou pull out the leviathan with a rod, and seize him by the tongue with a rope?
