Bible. Books of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments

Look upon all the haughty, and humble them, and crush the wicked in their places.

Bury them all in the ground, and cover their faces with darkness.

Then will I also acknowledge that thy right hand is able to save thee.

Behold the hippopotamus whom I have created, even as I have created you; he eats grass like an ox;

Behold, his strength is in his loins, and his strength is in the muscles of his belly;

He turns his tail like a cedar; and the sinews of his thighs are intertwined;

His feet are like brass pipes; his bones are like bars of iron;

This is the top of the ways of God; only He who created it can draw His sword to it;

The mountains bring him food, and there all the beasts of the field play;

He lies under the shady trees, under the reeds, and in the marshes;

The shady trees cover him with their shadow; willows by the streams surround him;

Behold, he drinks of the river, and is not in a hurry; he remains calm, even though the Jordan rushes to his mouth.

Shall any man take him in his sight, and pierce his nose with a hook?

Can thou pull out the leviathan with a rod, and seize him by the tongue with a rope?

Shall thou put a ring in his nostrils? Will you pierce his jaw with a needle?

Shall he beseech thee much, and shall he speak to thee meekly?

Shall he make a covenant with thee, and shall thou take him for thy servant for ever?

Wilt thou make fun of it as with a bird, and bind it for thy maidens?

Shall the companions of the fisher sell it, shall they divide it among the Canaanite merchants?

Can thou pierce his skin with a spear, and his head with a fisherman's edge?

Lay thy hand upon him, and remember the struggle: thou shalt not go forward.
