And all the people saw thunders, and flames, and the sound of trumpets, and a mountain smoking; And when they saw this, the people departed and stood afar off.

And they said to Moses, 'Speak to us, and we will listen, but let not God speak to us, lest we die.'

And Moses said to the people, 'Do not be afraid; God has come [to you] to try you, and that His fear may be before you, that you may not sin.

And the people stood afar off, and Moses entered into the darkness where God is.

And the Lord said to Moses, 'Thus speak to the children of Israel, 'You have seen me speaking to you from heaven;

Ye shall not make before me gods of silver, or gods of gold, ye shall not make unto yourselves,

Thou shalt make me an altar of the earth, and offer upon it thy burnt offerings, and thy peace-offerings, thy sheep, and thy oxen. in every place where I put the remembrance of my name, I will come to you and bless you;

But if thou shalt make me an altar of stones, thou shalt not build it of hewn stones, for as soon as thou hast put thy adze upon them, thou shalt defile them.

и не всходи по ступеням к жертвеннику Моему, дабы не открылась при нем нагота твоя.
