Bible. Books of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments

9 And Abram arose, and went on to the south.

10 And there was a famine in that land. And Abram went down to Egypt to dwell there, because the famine in that land was great.

11 And as he drew near to Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, 'Behold, I know that you are a woman of beautiful appearance;

12 and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, 'This is his wife; and they will kill me, and they will let you live;

13 Say therefore that thou art my sister, that it may be well with me for thy sake, and that my soul may live through thee.

14 And it came to pass, when Abram came into Egypt, that the Egyptians saw that she was a very beautiful woman;

15 And Pharaoh's nobles also saw her, and praised her to Pharaoh; And she was taken into the house of Pharaoh.

16 And it was well with Abram for her sake; and he had flocks and herds, and asses, and male and female servants, and hinnies, and camels.

17 But the Lord smote Pharaoh and his house with heavy blows for Sarai Abram's wife.

18 And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, 'What have you done this to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife?

19 Why did you say, 'She is my sister?' And I took her to be my wife. And now behold thy wife; Take [it] and go.

20 And Pharaoh commanded the people concerning him, and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him.

Chapter 13

1 And Abram went up out of Egypt, himself and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, to the south.

2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, and in silver, and in gold.

3 And he continued his journeys from the south to Bethel, to the place where his tent had formerly been between Bethel and Ai,

4 to the place of the altar which he made there at the beginning; and there Abram called on the name of the Lord.

5 And Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents.

6 And the land was not sufficient for them to dwell together, for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together.

7 And there was a dispute between the shepherds of Abram's cattle, and between the shepherds of Lot's cattle; and the Canaanites and Perizzites dwelt in the land at that time.

8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife between me and thee, and between my shepherds and thy shepherds, for we are kinsmen;
