37 And the Lord was angry with me for your sake, saying, 'Neither shalt thou enter there;

38 Joshua son of Nun, who is with you, he will go in there; confirm it, for it will bring Israel into its possession;

39 Your children, of whom you have said that they shall be a prey to your enemies, and your sons, who now know neither good nor evil, they shall enter there, and I will give it to them, and they shall possess it.

40 but ye shall turn and go into the wilderness, on the way to the Red Sea.

41 And you answered and said to me, 'We have sinned against the Lord [our God,] let us go and fight, as the Lord our God has commanded us. And you girded yourselves, every man with his weapons of war, and foolishly resolved to go up to the mountain.

42 But the Lord said to me, Say to them, 'Do not go up and fight, for I am not among you, lest your enemies smite you.'

43 And I have spoken unto you, but ye have not hearkened, and have resisted the command of the Lord, and have gone up into the mountain because of their obstinacy.

44 And the Amorites who dwelt in that mountain came up against you, and pursued you as bees do, and smote you in Seir as far as Hormah.

45 And ye returned, and wept before the Lord: but the LORD did not hear your cry, neither did he hearken unto you.

46 And ye tarried a long time in Kadesh, as long as ye were there.

Chapter 2

1 And we turned, and went into the wilderness to the Red Sea, as the Lord had told me, and walked a long time round about Mount Seir.

2 And the Lord said to me, saying,

3 It is enough for you to walk around this mountain, turn to the north;
