Bible. Books of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments

14 The name of the third river is Hiddekel [Tigris]: it flows before Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.

15 And the Lord God took the man [whom he had created,] and dwelt him in the garden of Eden, to cultivate it and to keep it.

16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou shalt eat,

17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil thou shalt not eat of it, for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

18 And the Lord God said, It is not good for the man to be alone; let us make him a helper corresponding to him.

19 And the Lord God formed out of the earth all the beasts of the field, and all the fowls of the air, and brought them unto man, that he might see what he should call them, and that whatever man should call every living creature, that would be its name.

20 And the man called the names of all the cattle, and of the fowls of the air, and of every beast of the field; but for man there was no helper like him.

21 And the Lord God put the man into a deep sleep; and when he had fallen asleep, he took one of his ribs, and covered the place with flesh.

22 And the Lord God made a woman out of the rib that was taken from the man, and brought her to the man.

23 And the man said, Behold, this is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken from her husband.

24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and they shall be one flesh.

25 And they were both naked, Adam and his wife, and they were not ashamed.

Chapter 3

1 The serpent was more cunning than all the beasts of the field that the Lord God had made. And the serpent said to the woman, Did God really say, Ye shall not eat of any tree in the garden?
