The Old Testament (Part 1)

4 And God saw the light, that it was good, and God separated the light from the darkness.

5 And God called the light day, and the darkness night. And there was evening and there was morning: day one.

6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters. [And so it was.] [1]

7 And God made the firmament, and separated the waters that are under the firmament from the waters that are above the firmament. And so it was.

8 And God called the firmament heaven. [And God saw that it was good.] And there was evening and there was morning: the second day.

9 And God said, Let the waters that are under heaven be gathered together in one place, and let the dry land appear. And so it was. [And the waters under the sky gathered together in their places, and the dry land appeared.]

10 And God called the dry land the earth, and the gathering of the waters he called the seas. And God saw that it was good.

11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth herbs, grass that sows seed, and a fruitful tree, bearing fruit after its kind, in which its seed is on the earth. And so it was.

12 And the earth brought forth herbs, grass that sowed seed after its kind, and a tree that bore fruit, in which its seed was after its kind. And God saw that it was good.

13 And there was evening and there was morning: the third day.

14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of heaven [to give light to the earth, and] to separate the day from the night, and for signs, and times, and days, and years;

15 And let them be lamps in the firmament of heaven, to shine upon the earth. And so it was.

16 And God made two great lights: a greater light to rule the day, and a lesser light to rule the night, and the stars;

17 And God set them in the firmament of heaven, to shine upon the earth,
