The Old Testament (Part 2)

A good deed is prayer with fasting and alms and justice. Better is a little with justice than much with unrighteousness; It is better to give alms than to gather gold;

For alms delivereth from death, and is able to cleanse all sin. Those who do alms and works of righteousness will live long.

But sinners are the enemies of their lives.

I will hide nothing from you; I have already said: it is proper for a king to keep a secret, but to declare the works of God is praiseworthy.

And when thou didst pray, and Sarah thy daughter-in-law, I offered up the remembrance of thy prayer before the Holy One, and when thou didst bury the dead, I was also with thee.

And when thou wast not slothful to get up, and leave thy supper, to go and take away the dead, thy charity was not concealed from me, but I was with thee.

And now God has sent me to heal thee, and thy sister-in-law Sarah.

I am Raphael, one of the seven holy angels who offer up the prayers of the saints and ascend before the glory of the Holy One.

Then both were troubled and fell on their faces to the ground, because they were afraid.

But he said to them, 'Do not be afraid, for peace will be upon you.' Bless God forever.

For I have not come by my own will, but by the will of our God; therefore bless him for ever.

All the days I have been seen by you; but I did not eat or drink, only to your eyes did it appear to your eyes.

Praise God now, therefore, for I am ascending to Him who sent me, and write all that has been done in a book.

And they arose, and saw him no more.
