The Old Testament (Part 3)

21 He who associates with the wise will be wise, but he who associates with fools will be corrupted.

22 Evil pursues sinners, but good is recompensed to the righteous.

23 The good man leaves an inheritance to his grandchildren, but the riches of the sinner are reserved for the righteous.

24 There is plenty of bread even in the field of the poor; but some perish from disorder.

25 Whosoever spares his rod hates his son; and whoever loves him punishes him from childhood.

26 The righteous eat until he is satisfied, but the belly of the wicked suffereth deprivation.

Chapter 14

1 A wise woman will build her house, but a foolish woman will destroy it with her own hands.

2 He that walketh in the straight way feareth the Lord; but whose ways are crooked, he neglects Him.

3 In the mouth of a fool is the scourge of pride; but the lips of the wise guard them.

4 Where there are no oxen, there the manger is empty; but much profit came from the power of oxen.

5 A faithful witness does not lie, but a false witness will tell many lies.

6 A profligate man seeketh wisdom, and findeth not; but knowledge is easy for the prudent.

7 Depart from a foolish man, in whom thou hast not seen prudent lips.

8 The wisdom of the prudent is the knowledge of his way, but the foolishness of the foolish is error.

9 Fools laugh at sin, but in the midst of the righteous there is goodwill.

10 The heart knoweth the sorrow of its own soul, and a stranger shall not interfere with its joy.

11 The house of the wicked shall be destroyed, but the dwelling of the righteous shall flourish.

12 There are ways that seem straight to man; but their end is the way to death.

13 And when laughter sometimes the heart aches, and the end of joy is sorrow.

14 A man with a corrupt heart shall be satisfied with his ways, and a good man with his own.
