A complete Orthodox prayer book. For every need

To Thee, O Lord Lover of mankind, I arise from sleep, and strive for Thy works by Thy mercy, and I pray to Thee: help me at all times, in all things, and deliver me from all worldly evil things and the haste of the devil, and save me, and lead me into Thy eternal Kingdom. For Thou art my Creator and Provider and Giver of all good, in Thee is all my hope, and to Thee I send up glory, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Fourth Prayer, of the same saint

O Lord, Who by Thy great goodness and great mercies hast given me, Thy servant, the passing time of the night without misfortune to pass away from all evil; Thou Thyself, O Lord, Creator of all things, vouchsafe me with Thy true light and enlightened heart to do Thy will, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Fifth Prayer of St. Basil the Great

For Thou art the true Light, enlightening and sanctifying all things, and all creation sings to Thee unto the ages of ages. Amen.

The sixth prayer of the same saint

Let us bless Thee, O Most High God and Lord of mercy, Who ever works with us great and unsearched, glorious and terrible, of which there is no number, Who has given us sleep for the repose of our infirmity, and the weakening of the labors of the labors of the flesh. We thank Thee, for Thou hast not destroyed us with our iniquities, but hast usually loved mankind, and in despair hast raised up Thy power, in order to glorify Thy power. Wherefore we beseech Thy immeasurable goodness, enlighten our thoughts, our eyes, and raise our minds from the heavy sleep of sloth: open our mouths, and I may be filled with Thy praise, that we may be able to sing and confess unto Thee, in all, and from all, glorified God, the Eternal Father, with Thy Only-begotten Son, and Thy All-Holy, Good, and Life-Giving Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Seventh Prayer, to the Most Holy Theotokos

I sing of Thy grace, O Lady, I beseech Thee, my mind, to grant grace. Instruct me in righteousness, in the way of Christ's commandments. Strengthen the children to the song, drive away despondency sleep. Bound by the captivity of sinful falls, by Thy supplications, O Bride of God. Preserve me in the night and in the days, delivering me from the enemy who fight. Thou who didst give birth to the life-giver of God, Thou didst bring me to life by passions. Thou who didst give birth to the unfading Light, enlighten my blind soul. O wondrous Lord, O Lord, Thou hast created me the house of the Divine Spirit. Thou who didst give birth to a physician, heal my soul's long-lasting passions. Troubled by the storm of life, direct me to the path of repentance. Deliver me from eternal fire, and from the evil worm, and from Tartarus. Let me not be a demon of joy, who is guilty of many sins. Make me new, O Most Immaculate One, my sins unsensual. Show me strange in all torments, and beseech the Lord of all. O Heavenly One, grant me joy, with all the saints, vouchsafe me. O Most Holy Virgin, hear the voice of Thy useless servant. Give me a stream of tears, O Most Pure One, cleansing my soul's filth. From the heart I offer Thee unceasingly, be diligent, O Lady. Accept my prayer service, and offer it to the gracious God. O Most Exalted Angel, Thou hast created the merging of the worldly me. The light-bearing Heavenly Seine, direct spiritual grace in me. I will lift up my hands and lips to praise, defiled with filth, O All-Blameless One. Deliver me from my suffocating foul deeds, earnestly beseeching Christ; To Him is due honor and worship, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Eighth Prayer, to our Lord Jesus Christ

O Most Merciful and All-Merciful God, O Lord Jesus Christ, Thou didst descend and become incarnate for the sake of love, that Thou mayest save all. And O Saviour, save me by grace, I beseech Thee; For if Thou hast saved me from works, this is neither grace nor gift, but more duty. To her, many in generosity and ineffable in mercy! For believe in Me, O my Christ, Thou shalt live, and shall not see death for ever. If faith in Thee saves the desperate, behold, I believe, save me, for Thou art my God and Creator. And let faith be imputed to me instead of works, O my God, for thou hast found no works that justify me. But let that faith prevail in the place of all, let it give me a testimony, let it justify me, let it show me a partaker of Thy eternal glory. Let not Satan snatch me away, and boast, O Word, that he has torn me away from Thy hand and hedge; but either I will, save me, or I do not will, O Christ my Saviour, go before me quickly, I will perish quickly: for Thou art my God from my mother's womb. Vouchsafe me, O Lord, to love Thee now, as one sometimes loves that very sin; and that I may work for Thee without slothfulness, as I did before to the flattering Satan. Above all, I will serve Thee, my Lord and God Jesus Christ, all the days of my life, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Ninth Prayer, to the Guardian Angel

Holy Angel, stand before my accursed soul and my passionate life, do not forsake me, a sinner, depart from me for my intemperance. Do not give place to the evil demon to possess me, the violence of this mortal body; strengthen my distressed and wicked hand, and guide me to the path of salvation. To her, holy Angel of God, guardian and protector of my accursed soul and body, forgive me all, for I have offended thee all the days of my life, and if I have sinned in this past night, cover me this day, and preserve me from every contrary temptation, that I may not anger God in any sin, and pray for me to the Lord, that He may establish me in His fear, and be worthy to show me the servant of His goodness. Amen.

Tenth Prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos
