Creed

I believe in one God the Father, the Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only-begotten, Who was born of the Father before all ages; Light of Light, true of God, true of God, begotten, uncreated, of one essence with the Father, in Whom all things were. For our sake and for our salvation, Thou didst come down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. And He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried. And he rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures. And ascended into heaven, and sat at the right hand of the Father. And to judge the living and the dead with glory of Him who is to come, His Kingdom shall have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Life-giving, Who proceedeth from the Father, Who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, saith the prophets. In one Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the remission of sins. I look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen.

The first prayer of St. Macarius the Great

O God, cleanse me, a sinner, for I have done good in Thy sight; but deliver me from evil, and Thy will be done in me, that I may open my unworthy mouth without condemnation, and praise Thy holy name, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages.

The second prayer of the same saint

Rising from sleep, I offer the midnight hymn to Thee, O Saviour, and falling down, I cry out to Thee: Do not let me fall asleep in sinful death, but be merciful to me, crucified by my will, and hasten to raise me up from me lying in idleness, and save me in intercession and prayer, and in my sleep shine forth for me the sinless day, O Christ God, and save me.

The third prayer of the same saint

To Thee, O Lord Lover of mankind, I arise from sleep, and strive for Thy works by Thy mercy, and I pray to Thee: help me at all times, in all things, and deliver me from all worldly evil things and the haste of the devil, and save me, and lead me into Thy eternal Kingdom. For Thou art my Creator and Provider and Giver of all good, in Thee is all my hope, and to Thee I send up glory, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Fourth Prayer, of the same saint

O Lord, Who by Thy great goodness and great mercies hast given me, Thy servant, the passing time of the night without misfortune to pass away from all evil; Thou Thyself, O Lord, Creator of all things, vouchsafe me with Thy true light and enlightened heart to do Thy will, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Fifth Prayer of St. Basil the Great

For Thou art the true Light, enlightening and sanctifying all things, and all creation sings to Thee unto the ages of ages. Amen.

The sixth prayer of the same saint

Let us bless Thee, O Most High God and Lord of mercy, Who ever works with us great and unsearched, glorious and terrible, of which there is no number, Who has given us sleep for the repose of our infirmity, and the weakening of the labors of the labors of the flesh. We thank Thee, for Thou hast not destroyed us with our iniquities, but hast usually loved mankind, and in despair hast raised up Thy power, in order to glorify Thy power. Wherefore we beseech Thy immeasurable goodness, enlighten our thoughts, our eyes, and raise our minds from the heavy sleep of sloth: open our mouths, and I may be filled with Thy praise, that we may be able to sing and confess unto Thee, in all, and from all, glorified God, the Eternal Father, with Thy Only-begotten Son, and Thy All-Holy, Good, and Life-Giving Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
