Prayer 1, of St. Macarius the Great, to God the Father

O Eternal God and King of all creation, Who has vouchsafed me even in this hour, forgive me the sins which I have committed on this day in deed, word, and thought, and cleanse, O Lord, my humble soul from all defilement of flesh and spirit. And grant me, O Lord, to pass away in peace in this night, that I may arise from my humble bed, and please Thy most holy name all the days of my life, and that I may overwhelm the enemies of the flesh and the bodiless who fight against me. And deliver me, O Lord, from vain thoughts that defile me, and from evil lusts. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

2nd Prayer of St. Antiochus to our Lord Jesus Christ

O Almighty, O Word of the Father, Thou art Thyself perfect, O Jesus Christ, for the sake of Thy mercy never depart from me, Thy servant, but always rest in me. Jesus, good Shepherd of Thy sheep, give me not over to the sedition of the serpent, and do not leave me to the desire of Satan, for the seed of corruption is in me. For Thou, O Lord God, worshipped of the Holy King, Jesus Christ, preserve me as I sleep with an unflickering light, by Thy Holy Spirit, Whom Thou didst sanctify Thy disciples. Grant me, O Lord, Thy unworthy servant, Thy salvation upon my couch: enlighten my mind with the light of the mind of Thy holy Gospel, my soul with the love of Thy Cross, my heart with the purity of Thy word, my body with Thy passionless passion, preserve my mind with Thy humility, and raise me up in time like Thy doxology. For Thou art most glorified with Thy Father, Who has no beginning, and with the Most Holy Spirit unto the ages. Amen.

Prayer 3, to the Most Holy Spirit

O Lord, O Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of truth, have mercy on me and have mercy on me Thy sinful servant, and forgive me the unworthy, and forgive all those who have sinned today as a man, moreover and not as a man, but also more bitter than cattle, my sins voluntary and involuntary, known and unknown: those who are evil from youth and science, and who are from insolence and despondency.

Have mercy on me, O my Creator Lord, Thy despondent and unworthy servant, and forsake me, and let me go, and forgive me, as the Good and Lover of mankind, that I may lie down in peace, sleep and rest, prodigal, sinful and accursed, and worship, and sing and glorify Thy most honorable name, with the Father, and His Only-begotten Son, now and ever, and unto the ages. Amen.

Prayer 4, of St. Macarius the Great

Forgive my trespasses, O Sinless One, who have sinned in this day, in knowledge and ignorance, in word, and deed, and thought, and with all my feelings. Thou Thyself, covering me, preserve me from every opposing circumstance by Thy Divine power, and by Thy ineffable love for mankind, and by Thy power. Cleanse, O God, cleanse the multitude of my sins. Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me from the snare of the evil one, and save my passionate soul, and illuminate me with the light of Thy countenance, when Thou comest in glory, and make me sleep without condemnation, and without dreaming, and without confusion, keep the thought of Thy servant, and take away all Satan's work from me, and enlighten me with the prudent eyes of my heart, that I may not fall asleep unto death. And send me an angel of peace, guardian and guide of my soul and body, that He may deliver me from my enemies; that I may arise from my bed, and offer Thee prayers of thanksgiving.

By Thy intercession, and by the sign of the Honorable Cross, and for the sake of all Thy saints, guard my poor soul, O Jesus Christ our God, for Thou art Holy, and exalted unto the ages. Amen.

Prayer 5

O Lord our God, forgive me those who have sinned in these days in word, deed, and thought, as Good and Lover of mankind. Grant me peaceful sleep and serenity. Send Thy guardian angel, covering and preserving me from all evil, for Thou art the guardian of our souls and bodies, and to Thee we send up glory, to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
