7 Vie 3. Ave. Simeon always felt this lack of higher education: "You know the weakness of my word," he turns to Christ, "and the lack of involvement in secular teaching." Hymn 58. 3–4. But this did not bother him at all, he rather boasted about it.

8 It can be assumed that "George" was the secular name of St. Simeon. The name Simeon was given to him at monastic tonsure in honor of his spiritual father, Simeon the Pious.
