15 Thou art the God who works miracles; Thou hast manifested Thy power among the nations; 16 Thou hast delivered thy people with an arm, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. 17 The waters have seen thee, O God, and the waters have seen thee, and have feared, and the depths have trembled. 18 The clouds poured out waters, the clouds gave out thunder, and Thy arrows flew. 19 The voice of Thy thunder is in the circle of heaven; lightning illuminated the universe; the earth shook and shook.

20 Thy way is in the sea, and thy path is in great waters, and thy traces are unknown. 21 Thou hast led thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. Glory: KATHISMA 11 Psalm 77 The Teaching of Asaph. 1 Take heed, my people, to my law, incline your ear to the words of my mouth. 2 I will open my mouth in a parable, and I will speak divination of old. 3 What we have heard and learned, and our fathers have told us, 4 we will not hide from their children, declaring to the generation to come the glory of the Lord, and his power, and his wonders which he has done.

5 He established the statute in Jacob, and laid down the law in Israel, which commanded our fathers to declare to their children, 6 that they might know the generation to come, the children that would be born, and that they should declare to their children in due time, 7 to put their hope in God, and not to forget the works of God, and to keep his commandments, 8 and not to be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, unsettled in heart and unfaithful to God in spirit.

9 And the sons of Ephraim, armed, shooting with bows, turned back in the day of battle: 10 they did not keep the covenant of God, and denied to walk in his law; 11 and they have forgotten his works, and the wonders which he hath shewed unto them. 12 In the sight of their fathers he did wonders in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan: 13 He divided the sea, and led them through it, and set the waters as a wall; 14 And he led them by day with a cloud, and all night long with the light of fire; 15 He cut a stone in the wilderness, and gave them to drink as out of a great abyss; 16 Out of the rock he brought forth streams, and the waters flowed like rivers.

17 But they continued to sin against him, and to provoke the Most High to anger in the wilderness: 18 they tempted God in their hearts, demanding food according to their own souls, 19 and they spoke against God, and said, 'Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?' 20 Behold, He struck a stone, and waters flowed, and streams flowed. "Can He also give bread, can He prepare meat for His people?

21 The Lord heard and was kindled with wrath, and fire was kindled against Jacob, and wrath was moved against Israel 22 because they did not believe in God and did not trust in His salvation. 23 He commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven, 24 and rained manna on them for food, and gave them the bread of heaven. 25 The bread of angels was eaten by man; He sent them food until they were satisfied.

26 And he stirred up the east wind in heaven, and brought the south with his power, 27 and rained flesh upon them like dust, and birds of feathers like the sand of the sea: 28 he cast them down in the midst of their camp, near their dwellings, 29 and they ate and were satisfied; and he gave them what they desired. 30 But their whim had not yet passed, food was still in their mouths, 31 the wrath of God came upon them, and slew their fat men, and brought down the young men of Israel.

32 With all this, they continued to sin and did not believe in His miracles. 33 And he wasted their days in vanity, and their years in confusion. 34 When he was killing them, they sought him, and turned to him, and from early morning they ran to God, 35 and remembered that God was their refuge, and the Most High God was their deliverer, 36 and they flattered him with their mouths, and lied before him with their tongues; 37 but their heart was unjust before him, and they were not faithful to his covenant.

38 But he, the Merciful, forgave sin, and did not destroy them, many times turned away his wrath, and did not stir up all his wrath: 39 he remembered that they were flesh, a breath that goes away and does not return. 40 How many times did they provoke him to anger in the wilderness, and provoke him to anger in a land uninhabited! 41 and again they tempted God, and insulted the Holy One of Israel, 42 they did not remember his hand, the day when he delivered them from oppression, 43 when he did his signs and wonders in Egypt in the field of Zoan; 44 And he turned their rivers and their streams into blood, that they might not drink; 45 And he sent insects upon them to sting them, and frogs to destroy them. 46 Their crops of the earth he gave to the caterpillar, and their labor to the locusts; 47 Their vines were slain with hail, and their sycamores with ice; 48 Their cattle he gave up to the city, and their flocks to lightning; 49 He sent upon them the flame of His wrath, and indignation, and wrath, and calamity, the embassy of evil angels; 50 He made the path of His wrath straightened, He did not keep their souls from death, and gave up their cattle to pestilence. 51 He smote every firstborn in Egypt, the firstfruits of strength in the tents of Ham; 52 And he led his people like sheep, and led them like a flock into the wilderness. 53 He led them safely, and they were not afraid, but the sea covered their enemies; 54 And he brought them into his holy province, to this mountain, which his right hand had gained; 55 And he drove out the nations before them, and divided their land for their inheritance, and he dwelt the tribes of Israel in their tents.

56 But they still tempted and grieved the Most High God, and did not keep his statutes; 57 they turned away and changed like their fathers, turned back like a wrong bow; 58 they grieved him with their high places, and with their idols they stirred up his jealousy. 59 And God heard, and was inflamed with wrath, and was greatly angry with Israel; 60 He rejected the dwelling place in Shiloh, the tabernacle in which He dwelt among men; 61 And he gave his fortress and his glory into the hands of the enemy, 62 and he put his people to the sword, and was angry with his inheritance.

63 His young men were devoured by fire, and their maidens were not sung wedding songs; 64 His priests fell by the sword, and his widows did not weep. 65 But as if from sleep, the Lord arose, like a giant overcome by wine, 66 and smote his enemies in the rear, and delivered them up to eternal shame; 67 and he rejected the tent of Joseph, and did not choose the tribe of Ephraim, 68 but chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion, which he loved.

69 And he built his sanctuary as the heavens, and established it as the earth, 70 and chose David his servant, and took him out of the sheepfolds, 71 and brought him out of the milking houses to feed his people Jacob, and his inheritance Israel. 72 And he shepherded them in the purity of his heart, and led them with wise hands. Glory: Psalm 78 Psalm of Asaph. 1 God! the Gentiles have come into Thy inheritance, they have defiled Thy holy temple, they have turned Jerusalem into ruins; 2 The carcasses of Thy servants have been given to be devoured by the birds of the air, and the bodies of Thy saints to the beasts of the earth. 3 And they shed their blood like water round about Jerusalem, and there was no one to bury them.

4 We have become a laughing stock among our neighbors, a reproach and a reproach to those around us. 5 How long, O Lord, wilt thou be angry unceasingly, shall thy jealousy burn like fire? 6 Pour out your wrath on the nations that do not know you, and on the kingdoms that do not call on your name, 7 for they devoured Jacob and laid waste his dwelling. 8 Remember not to us the sins of our forefathers; Thy mercies shall soon precede us, for we are greatly exhausted.

9 Help us, O God our Saviour, for the glory of thy name; deliver us and forgive us our sins for Thy name's sake. 10 Why should the Gentiles say, 'Where is their God?' Let vengeance be made known among the Gentiles before our eyes for the shed blood of Thy servants. 11 Let the groaning of the prisoner come before Thee; by the power of Thy arm preserve those who are doomed to death.
