HOMER

State Educational and Pedagogical Edition

of the Ministry of Education of the RSFSR

Moscow 1960

The book arose on the basis of a special course (lectures and seminars) on Homer at the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute named after V.I. Lenin. The research underlying this course was carried out back in the 30s and has been repeatedly revised.

The author wanted to acquaint the reader more closely with the scientific literature on Homeric studies. In those cases where the author found it necessary, he personally translated the Greek text of Homer and, for the sake of accuracy, of course, in prose form. In other cases, where careful accuracy was not required, the quotations were given according to the translations of V.V. Veresaev.
