The Gospel of John
20 He declared, and did not deny it, and declared that I was not the Christ.
21 And they asked him, 'What is it?' Are you Elijah? He said, "No." Prophet? He answered: no.
22 And they said unto him, Who art thou? That we may give an answer to those who sent us: What wilt thou say of thyself?
23 He said, 'I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Straighten the way of the Lord, as Isaiah the prophet said.'
24 And the messengers were of the Pharisees;
25 And they asked him, 'Why then do you baptize, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?'
26 John answered and said to them, "I baptize in water; but there stands among you *Someone* Whom you do not know.
27 He is He who comes after me, but He who stands before me. I am not worthy to untie the strap of His shoes.
E-28 It was at Bethabara by the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming to him, and said, "Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world."
3This is the man of whom I said, "A man is coming after me, who has gone before me, because he was before me."
31 I did not know Him; but for this reason He came to baptize in water, that He might be manifested to Israel.
32 And John testified, saying, 'I saw the Spirit coming down from heaven like a dove, and abiding upon him.'
33 I did not know him; but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, On whom you see the Spirit descending and abiding upon Him, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.
34 And I saw and testified that this is the Son of God.
35 And on the morrow John stood again, and two of his disciples.
36 And when he saw Jesus coming, he said, 'Behold the Lamb of God.'
37 When the two disciples heard these words from him, they followed Jesus.
38 And Jesus, having turned and seen them coming, said to them, 'What have you need?' And they said unto him, Rabbi, which is to say, teacher, where dwellest thou?
39 He said to them, 'Go and see.' They went and saw where He lived; and they stayed with him that day. It was about ten o'clock.
40 One of the two who heard from John *about* *Jesus* and followed Him was Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter.
