Text of the Lectionary in the Synodal translation

Mark 1:29–35

Thursday, 12th week.

The Gospel of Mark, conceived 6

In those days, Jesus withdrew to a desert place, and there he prayed. Simon and those who were with him went after him, and when they found him, they said to him, 'All are looking for you.' He said to them, "Let us go to the villages and cities that are near, that I may preach there also, for this I have come." And He preached in their synagogues all over Galilee, and cast out devils. A leper came to Him, and beseeching Him, and falling on his knees before Him, said to Him, "If you will, you can cleanse me." Jesus, having compassion on him, stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, "I will, be cleansed." After this word, the leprosy immediately disappeared from him, and he became clean. And looking at him sternly, he immediately sent him away, and said to him, "See that you say nothing to anyone, but go and show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded for a witness to them."

Mark 1:35–44

Saturday 2 of Great Lent.

The Gospel of Mark, conceived 7

In those days Jesus came to Capernaum; and it was heard that he was in the house. Immediately many people gathered, so that there was no room at the door; and he spoke a word to them. And they came to him with a paralytic, who was carried by four; and not being able to approach Him because of the multitude, they opened the roof of the house where He was, and having dug it, they lowered the bed on which the paralytic lay. Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, "Child! thy sins are forgiven thee. And some of the scribes sat there, and thought in their hearts, Why does he blaspheme thus? who can forgive sins except God alone? And Jesus, knowing immediately in his spirit that they were thinking thus in themselves, said unto them, Why do ye think thus in your hearts? Is it easier? shall I say to the paralytic, "Thy sins are forgiven?" Or shall I say, Arise, take up thy bed, and walk? But that ye may know that the Son of Man hath power on earth to forgive sins, saith unto the paralytic, I say unto thee, Arise, take up thy bed, and go into thy house. Immediately he arose, and taking up his bed, went out before all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this."

Mark 2:1–12

Sunday 2 of Great Lent.

The Gospel of Mark, conceived 8

In those days, Jesus, as he passed, saw Levi of Alphaeus sitting at the toll-house, and said to him, "Follow me." And he arose and followed Him. And as Jesus reclined in his house, his disciples also reclined with him, and many publicans and sinners: for they were many, and they followed him. The scribes and Pharisees, seeing that He was eating with tax collectors and sinners, said to His disciples, "How is it that He eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?" Hearing this, Jesus said to them, "It is not the healthy who have need of a physician, but the sick; I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
