How to Read the Bible

26 I will give them and the neighbourhood of my hill a blessing, and I will send down rain in due season; it will be rains of blessing.

27 And the tree of the field shall bear its fruit, and the earth shall yield its produce; and they shall be safe in their land, and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, and have delivered them out of the hand of their captors.

28 They shall no longer be a prey to the nations, neither shall the beasts of the field devour them; they will live in safety, and no one will frighten them.

29 And I will make a glorious planting among them, and they will no more perish of hunger in the land, nor suffer shame from the nations.

30 And they shall know that I, the Lord their God, am with them, and they, the house of Israel, are my people, saith the Lord God,

31 and that ye are my sheep, the sheep of my pasture; you are men, and I am your God, saith the Lord God.

34.23. God, the Heavenly Shepherd of Israel, will appoint a Shepherd, the Messiah from the house of David, over His people. 34.25. The Messianic Covenant will establish a kingdom of harmony (peace, Hebrew shalom) between humans and nature (cf. Isaiah 11:1-9). Fierce beasts here denote both predators and hostile peoples.

6. The captivity will serve for the spiritual recovery of Israel (Ezekiel 36:16-38; Ps 50)

16 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

17 Son of man! when the house of Israel dwelt in his land, he defiled it by his conduct and his deeds; their way before me was like the uncleanness of a woman in the time of her purification.

18 And I poured out my wrath upon them because of the blood which they had shed in the land, and because they had defiled it with their idols.

19 And I scattered them among the nations, and they were scattered throughout the lands; I judged them by their ways and by their works.

20 And they came to the nations whither they went, and profaned my holy name, because they say of them, 'They are the people of the Lord, and they have come out of his land.'
