How to Read the Bible

These are the words which Moses spake to all Israel beyond the Jordan in the wilderness in the plain opposite Suph, between Pharan and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dezahab,

At a distance of eleven days' journey from Horeb, on the road from Mount Seir to Kadesh-barnea.

In the fortieth year, the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, Moses spoke to the children of Israel all that the Lord had commanded him concerning them.

And after he had slain Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan, who dwelt in Ashteroth in Edrei,

Beyond the Jordan, in the land of Moab, Moses began to expound this law, and said,

The Lord our God spoke to us in Horeb and said, "It is enough for you to dwell on this mountain!

Turn and go on a journey, and go to the mountain of the Amorites, and to all their neighbours, to the plain, to the mountain, to the low places, and to the southern extremities, and to the shores of the sea, to the land of Canaan, and to Lebanon, even to the great river, the river Euphrates.

Behold, I give you this land, go and take for an inheritance the land which the Lord swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and to them and to their descendants."

And I said unto you at that time, I cannot lead you alone;

The LORD your God has multiplied you, and behold, you are now as numerous as the stars of heaven;

May the Lord God of your fathers multiply you a thousand times as many as you are now, and bless you, as he said to you,

How then shall I bear your burdens, your burdens, and your strife?

Ye shall choose men after your tribes who are wise, prudent, and experienced, and I will make them your rulers.

And ye answered me, and said, Thou hast commanded that a good deed be done.
