By water and blood and by the Spirit

Thou art a demon: Abraham died, and the prophets, and Thou sayest, If any man keep My word, he shall never taste death. 53 Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died. Who do You make Yourself to be? 54 Jesus answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing: my Father is the one who glorifies me, he of whom you say that he is your God." 55 And ye have not known him, but I know him. And if I say that I do not know Him, I will be like you, a liar like you, but I know Him and keep His word. 56 Abraham your father rejoiced because he was to see my day: and he saw, and rejoiced. 57 Then the Jews said to him, 'You are not yet fifty years old, and you have seen Abraham?' 58 Jesus said to them, 'Verily, verily, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.' 59 Then they took stones to throw at Him. And Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.

1 And as he passed, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who has sinned, he or his parents, that he was born blind? 3 Jesus answered, "Neither has he sinned, nor his parents, but this is that the works of God may be manifested in him." 4 We must do the works of him who sent me while there is day: the night comes, when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. 6 And when he had said this, he spat on the ground, and made a mixture of saliva, and anointed his eyes with the mixture, 7 and said to him, "Go and wash in the pool of Siloam." He went and washed himself, and came back seeing. 8 Then the neighbors, and those who had seen him before, because he was a beggar, began to say, 'Is this not the one who sits here begging alms?' 9 And some said, It is he; others said, "No, but I look like him." He said, 'It is I.' 10 And they said to him, 'How then were your eyes opened?' 11 He answered, "A man called Jesus made a mixture and anointed my eyes, and said to me, 'Go to Siloam and wash yourself.' I went and, having washed, regained my sight. 12 And they said to him, 'Where is he?' He said: I don't know. E-13 They bring him to the Pharisees, that former blind man. E-14 And it was the Sabbath on the day that Jesus made the mixture and opened his eyes. 15 Again the Pharisees began to ask him how he had received his sight. And he said unto them, He hath put the mixture upon my eyes, and I have washed, and I see. 16 And some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not of God, because he does not keep the Sabbath." Others said, "How can a sinful man do such signs?" And there was a division between them. 17 Then again they say to the blind man, 'What say thou of him, for he hath opened thy eyes?' And he said, He is a prophet.

22 And these things were said by his parents, because they were afraid of the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed among themselves, If any man confess him to be the Christ, let him be excommunicated from the synagogue. E-23 So his parents said, "He's an adult, ask him." 24 So they called a man a second time, one who was blind, and said to him, 'Give glory to God; we know that That Man is a sinner. 25 And he answered, 'Whether he is a sinner, I do not know; One thing I know is that I was blind and now I see. 26 And they said unto him, 'What hath he done unto thee?' How did he open his eyes to you? 27 And he answered them, 'I have already told you, and you have not heard.' Why do you want to listen again? Do you also want to become His disciples? 28 And they rebuked him, and said, 'You are a disciple of Him, and we are disciples of Moses.' E-20 We know what God spoke to Moses, but we don't know where He came from. 30 And the man answered, and said unto them, 'It is strange that ye know not whence he comes, but he hath opened my eyes.' 31 We know that God does not listen to sinners: but if anyone fears God and does His will, he listens to him. 32 From eternity it has not been heard that anyone has opened the eyes of a man born blind. 33 If He had not been of God, He could have done nothing. 34 And they answered and said to him, 'Thou hast been born all in sins, and thou dost teach us?' And they threw him out. 35 And when Jesus heard that they had cast him out, he found him, and said, "Thou believest in the Son

Human? 36 And he answered, and said, 'Who is He, Lord, that I should believe in Him?' 37 Jesus said to him, 'And you have seen him, and he who speaks to you is he.' 38 And he said, 'I believe, Lord,' and he worshipped him. 39 And Jesus said, 'I have come into this world for judgment, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.' 40 And those of the Pharisees who were with him heard this, and said to him, 'Are we also blind?' 41 Jesus said to them, 'If you had been blind, you would have no sin.' But now you say, We see. Your sin remains.

1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever enters not by the door into the sheepfold, but enters by another way, is a thief and a robber; 2 And he who enters in by the door is a shepherd to the sheep, 3 To him the gatekeeper openeth it, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his sheep by name, and brings them out. 4 And when he has driven out all his men, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice. 5 But they will not follow a stranger, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers. 6 Jesus said this parable to them, "But they did not understand the meaning of what he was saying to them." 7 Jesus said again, "Verily, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep." 8 All who came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the door: through me, if any man come in, he will be saved, and he will go in and go out, and he will find pasture. 10 A thief comes only to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come to have life, and to have it more abundantly, and I am the good shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 A hireling, and not a shepherd, he who has no sheep of his own, sees the wolf coming, and leaving the sheep, and fleeing, 13 because he is a hireling, and he cares not for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd, and I know mine, and my people know me. 15 As the Father knoweth me, I also know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And the other sheep I have, not of this fold, and these I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one flock, one Shepherd. 17 Therefore the Father loves me, because I lay down my soul to receive it again. 18 No one has taken it from me, but I put it myself. I have the power to lay it down, and I have the power to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father. 19 Again, there was a division among the Jews because of these words. 20 Many of them said, 'A demon is in him, and he is mad.' Why do you listen to Him? 21 And others said, These are not the words of one who is possessed by a demon: Can a demon open the eyes of the blind? 22 Then came the feast of the Dedication in Jerusalem; It was winter. 23 And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon's porch. 24 Then the Jews surrounded him, and said unto him, How long wilt thou afflict our souls? If You're the Christ, tell us openly. 25 Jesus answered them, "I have told you, and you do not believe; the works which I do in the name of my Father, they bear witness of me; 26 but you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me, 28 and I give them everlasting life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given me a gift, is greater than all,[116] and out of the hand of the Father no one can steal, 30 I and the Father are one. 31 Again the Jews took stones to beat Him. 32 Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good works from the Father." For which of these deeds do you stone Me? 35 And the Jews answered him, 'We do not stone you for a good deed, but because of blasphemy, and because you, being a man, make yourself God.' 34 Jesus answered them, 'Is it not written in your law, 'I said, 'You are gods?' 35 If the Law has called gods those to whom the word of God has come, and the Scriptures cannot be abolished, 36 Do you say to Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, 'You blaspheme, because I said, 'I am the Son of God'? 37 If I do not the works of my Father, do not believe me. 38 But if I do, then, though they do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and know that the Father is in me, and I am in the Father. 39 Then they sought to seize him again, but he turned away from their hand. 40 And he went again to the other side of the Jordan, to the place where John had baptized before, and remained there. 41 And many came to him, and said that John had done no sign, but all that John had said about him was true. E-42 And many believed on Him there.

1 And there was a certain man who was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, of the village of Mary, and of Martha her sister. 2 And Mary was the one who anointed the Lord with myrrh, and wiped his feet with her hair; her brother Lazarus was sick. 3 And the sisters sent to say unto him, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick. 4 And when Jesus heard this, he said, "This sickness is not unto death, but to the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified by it." 5 And Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus. 6 And when he heard that Lazarus was sick, then he remained two days in the place where he was. 7 Then, after this, he said to his disciples, "Let us go again into Judea." 8 And the disciples said unto him, Rabbi, the Jews have just sought to stone thee, and thou art going there again? 9 Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours in the day?" He who walks in the daytime does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. 10 And he that walketh in the night stumbleeth, because there is no light in him: and he said these things, and said to them, Lazarus our friend has fallen asleep; but I am going to wake him up. 12 And the disciples said unto him, Lord, if he sleepeth, he shall be saved. 13 But Jesus spoke of his death, and they thought that he was speaking of a simple dream. 14 Then Jesus said to them plainly, 'Lazarus is dead.' 15 And I rejoice for you, that I was not there, that ye might believe. But let's go to him. 16 Then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to the other disciples, "Let us also go to die with him." 17 When Jesus arrived, he found that he had already been in the tomb for four days. 18 And Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen stades. 19 And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary to comfort them in their grief for their brother. 20 When Martha heard Jesus coming, she went out to meet Him; Mary was sitting in her house. 21 Then Martha said to Jesus, 'Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.' 22 Even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you. 23 Jesus said to her, 'Your brother will rise again.' 24 Martha said to him, 'I know that he will rise again in the resurrection, on the last day.' 25 Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, will live; 26 and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Do you believe that? 27 She said to Him, "Yes, Lord, I have believed, and I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world." 28 And having said these things, she went and called Mary her sister, saying secretly, 'The Master is here and is calling you.' 29 And when she had heard, she got up in haste, and went to him. 30 Jesus had not yet entered the village, but he was still in the place where Martha had met him. 31 Then the Jews who were with her in the house, and comforting her, when they saw Mary getting up in haste and going out, followed her, thinking that she was going to the tomb to weep there. 32 And Mary, when she came to where Jesus was, when she saw him, fell at his feet and said to him, 'Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.' 35 And when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her, weeping, he was troubled in spirit, and was troubled, 34 and said, 'Where have you laid him?' They said to Him, "Lord, come and see." 35 Jesus shed tears. 36 And the Jews said at that time, 'This is how he loved him.' 37 And some of them said, 'Could not he, who opened the eyes of the blind man, cause this one also not to die?' E-38 Jesus, rebellious in Himself again, comes to the tomb: it was a cave, and a stone covered it. 39 Jesus said, "Take a stone." The sister of the deceased, Martha, said to him: "Lord, he is already stinking: for he is four days old." 40 Jesus said to her, 'Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?' E-41 Then they took the stone. Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, "Father, thank you that you have heard me." 42 I knew that you always heard me, but I told them for the sake of the people standing around, that they might believe that you had sent me. 43 And having said these things, he cried with a loud voice, 'Lazarus, come forth.' 44 And the dead man went out, bound hand and foot with burial bands, and his face was wrapped in a handkerchief. Jesus said to them, "Loose him and let him go." 45 Then many of the Jews who came to Mary and saw what he had done, believed in him. 46 And some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. 47 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered together and said, 'What shall we do, because this man does many signs?' 48 If we leave him thus, all will believe in him, and the Romans will come and destroy both the temple and the people among us. 49 And one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest for that year, said to them, 'You

you do not know anything, 50 and do not understand that it is better for you that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish. 51 He did not say this on his own behalf, but when he was high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was to die for the people, 52 and not only for the people, but that he might also gather together the scattered children of God. E-53 From that day on, they made up their mind to kill Him. Therefore, Jesus no longer walked openly among the Jews, but went from there to a country near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there he remained with the disciples. And the Passover of the Jews was near, and many came to Jerusalem from that country before the Passover, to be cleansed. 56 Then they were looking for Jesus, and they were saying among themselves, standing in the temple, 'What do you think?' Of course, he will not come to the Festival? 57 And the chief priests and the Pharisees gave orders that if any man knew where he was, he should report that he might seize him.

1 So Jesus, six days before the Passover, came to Bethany, where Lazarus, whom Jesus had raised from the dead, was. 2 They made him a supper there, and Martha ministered. Lazarus was one of those who sat at table with Him. 3 Then Mary took a pound of ointment from the pure spikenard, which was of great value, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair, and the house was filled with the fragrance of myrrh. 4 And Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, who was to deliver him up, saith, 5 Why did they not sell this ointment for three hundred denarii, and give it to the poor? 6 And he said this, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and having a money-chest, he took what was put into it. 7 Then Jesus said, 'Leave her; it was necessary that she should save the myrrh for the day of My burial. 8 For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me. 9 And many people of the Jews knew then that he was there, and they came, not only for Jesus' sake, but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised up from the dead. 10 And the chief priests decided to kill Lazarus also, 11 because many of the Jews came and believed in Jesus for his sake. 12 And on the morrow a great number of the people who had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, 13 took palm branches and went out to meet him, and cried out, Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord and King of Israel! 14 And Jesus, having found the colt, sat down on it, as it is written: 15 Do not be afraid, O daughter of Zion: behold, your King is coming, sitting on a colt. 16 His disciples did not understand this at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that it was written about him, and they did it to him. 17 And the people who were with him testified when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him up from the dead. 18 Wherefore the people went out to meet him, because they heard that he had done this sign. 19 And the Pharisees said to one another, 'You see that you are gaining nothing, behold, the world has gone after him.' 20 Of those who went to worship on the Feast were some Greeks. 21 And they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and besought him, saying, 'Sir, we want to see Jesus.' 22 Philip came and said to Andrew; Andrew and Philip come and speak to Jesus. 23 And Jesus answered them, saying, "The hour has come for the Son of man to be glorified." 24 Verily, verily, I say to you, if a grain of wheat falls to the ground and does not die, it remains alone; but if he dies, he bears much fruit. 25 He that loveth his life destroyeth it, and he that hateth his life in this world shall preserve it unto eternal life. 26 If any man serve me, let him follow me, and where I am, there will my servant be. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him. 27 Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour; but for this reason I have come for this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name. Then a voice was heard from heaven: "And I have glorified, and I will glorify again." 29 And the people who stood and heard said, 'This is thunder.' Others said, "An angel spoke to Him." 30 Jesus answered and said, "This voice is not for me, but for you." 31 Now is the judgment of this world; now the prince of this world will be cast out. 32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. 33 This he said, to make it clear what kind of death he was to die. 34 And the people answered him, 'We have heard in the law that Christ abides for ever, but how then sayest thou, that

must the Son of Man be exalted? Who is this Son of Man? 35 Jesus said to them, 'There is still a little time of light among you.' Walk while you have light, so that darkness does not overtake you. And he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. 36 As long as you have light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light. Jesus said this, and went away and hid himself from them. 37 After he had done so many signs before them, they did not believe in him, 38 that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said,

Lord, who has believed what we have heard, and to whom has the hand of the Lord been revealed?
