52 This hill is a witness, and this monument is a witness, that neither will I go over this hill to you, nor will you go to me over this hill and this monument, for evil;

53 Let the God of Abraham and the God of Nahor judge between us, the God of their father. Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac.

54 And Jacob slew the sacrifice on the mountain, and called his relatives to eat bread; and they ate bread and drank and slept on the mountain.

55 And Laban arose early in the morning, and kissed his grandsons and his daughters, and blessed them. And Laban went and returned to his place.

Chapter 32

1 And Jacob went his way. [And looking, he saw the host of God taking up arms.] And the angels of God met him.

2 And when Jacob saw them, he said, 'This is the army of God.' And he called the name of the place Mahanaim.

3 And Jacob sent messengers before him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, in the region of Edom,

4 And he commanded them, saying, 'Thus say to my lord Esau, 'This is what your servant Jacob says: I have dwelt with Laban, and have lived to this day;

5 And I have oxen, and asses, and flocks, and male and female handmaids; and I sent to make known myself to my lord [Esau], that I might gain favor in your eyes.

6 And the messengers returned to Jacob, and said, 'We have gone to your brother Esau; He is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him.

7 Jacob was very frightened and troubled; And he divided the men who were with him, both the flocks and the herds, and the camels, into two camps.

8 And he said, 'If Esau attacks one camp and smites it, the rest of the camp may be saved.'

9 And Jacob said, 'O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, O Lord [God], who said unto me, Return unto thy land, to thy native land, and I will do good unto thee.
