Bible. Books of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments

16 And he said, "By me, saith the Lord, that because thou hast done this work, thou hast not spared thy son, thy only son, [for me,]

17 then I will bless you, and multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and as the sand on the seashore. and thy seed shall possess the cities of their enemies;

18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because thou hast obeyed my voice.

19 And Abraham returned to his servants, and they arose, and went together to Beersheba; And Abraham dwelt in Beersheba.

20 And after these things they spoke unto Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah also bore sons to Nahor thy brother, saying,

21 Uz his firstborn, Buz, this brother, Kemuel the father of Aram,

22 Kesed, and Chazo, and Pildash, and Idlath, and Bethuel;

23 Of Bethuel was born Rebekah. And Milcah bore these eight [sons] to Nahor Abraham's brother;

24 And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore Tevah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maacah.

Chapter 23

1 The life of Sarah was a hundred and twenty-seven years: these are the years of Sarah's life;

2 And Sarah died in Kiriath-arba, which is now Hebron, in the land of Canaan. And Abraham came to weep for Sarah, and to mourn for her.

3 And Abraham departed from his dead woman, and spoke to the children of Heth, and said,

4 I am a stranger and a sojourner among you; Give me a place for a sepulchre among you, that I may bury my dead from my eyes.

5 And the sons of Heth answered Abraham, and said to him,

6 Hear us, O our lord; you are the prince of God in our midst; in the best of our burial places bury thy dead; None of us will refuse you a burial place for the burial of your dead.

7 Abraham arose and worshipped the people of that land, the sons of Heth;

8 And he spake unto them, saying, If ye consent that I should bury my dead, then listen to me, and ask Ephron the son of Zohar for me,

9 that he should give me the cave of Machpelah, which he has at the end of his field, that for a good price he may give it to me in the midst of you, as a property for burial.

10 And Ephron sat in the midst of the children of Heth; And Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the ears of the children of Heth, all who were entering into the gates of his city, and said,

11 Nay, my lord, hear me: I give thee the field, and the cave that is in it, I give thee, in the sight of the children of my people I give it to thee, bury thy dead.
