The Old Testament (Part 2)

15 I am Raphael, one of the seven holy angels who offer up the prayers of the saints and ascend before the glory of the Holy One.

16 Then both were troubled and fell on their faces to the ground, because they were afraid.

17 But he said to them, 'Do not be afraid, for peace will be upon you.' Bless God forever.

18 For I have not come by my own will, but by the will of our God; therefore bless him for ever.

19 All the days I have been seen by you; but I did not eat or drink, only to your eyes did it appear to your eyes.

20 Praise God now, therefore, for I am ascending to Him who sent me, and write all that has been done in a book.

21 And they arose, and saw him no more.

22 And they began to tell of the great and wonderful works of God, and how the angel of the Lord had appeared unto them.

Chapter 13

1 In joy Tobit wrote a prayer in these words: Blessed be God, who lives forever, and blessed is his kingdom!

2 For he chastens and has mercy, brings down to hell and exalts, and there is no one who escapes from his hand.

3 Sons of Israel! glorify Him before the Gentiles, for He has scattered us among them.

4 There proclaim his greatness, exalt him before all that liveth: for he is our Lord and God our Father for all ages.

5 He will punish us for our iniquities, and will have mercy on us again, and will gather us together from all the nations, wherever you may be scattered among them.

6 If you turn to him with all your heart and with all your soul, to walk before him in truth, then he will turn to you, and will not hide his face from you. See what He will do to you. Glorify Him with all the words of your mouth, and bless the Lord of righteousness, and exalt the King of the ages. In the land of my captivity I glorify Him, and preach His power and majesty to a people of sinners. Turn, you sinners, and do righteousness before him. Who knows, perhaps He will be pleased with you and show you mercy?

7 I exalt my God, and my soul the King of heaven, and rejoices in his majesty.

8 Let all declare him and glorify him in Jerusalem.

9 Jerusalem, holy city! He will punish you for the deeds of your sons, and will again have mercy on the sons of the righteous.

10 Praise the Lord earnestly, and bless the King of the ages, that his tabernacle may be built again in thee with joy, that he may rejoice among thee the captives, and that he may love in thee the wretched unfortunate in all generations of the age.

11 Many nations will come from afar to the name of the Lord God with gifts in their hands, with gifts to the King of heaven; the generations of generations will praise thee with shouts of joy.

12 Cursed are all those who hate you, blessed will be all those who love you forever!
