The Old Testament (Part 2)

13 Rejoice and rejoice in the sons of the righteous, for they shall be gathered together, and shall bless the Lord of the righteous.

14 Oh, blessed are those who love you! they will rejoice in your peace. Blessed are those who have grieved over all thy afflictions, for they shall rejoice in thee when they see all thy glory, and shall rejoice for ever.

15 May my soul bless God, the great King,

16 For Jerusalem shall be built of sapphire and smaragda, and of costly stones; thy walls, towers, and fortifications are of pure gold;

17 And the squares of Jerusalem shall be lined with beryl, and with anthrax, and with stone from Ophir.

18 In all the streets thereof shall be heard, Alleluia, and they shall praise him, saying, Blessed be God, who hath exalted Jerusalem for all ages.

Chapter 14

1 And Tobit finished the doxology.

2 He was eighty-eight years old when he lost his sight, and after eight years he received his sight. And he did almsgiving, and continued to be reverent before the Lord God and glorify Him.

3 At last he was very old, and he called his son and his six sons, and said to him, 'My son, take your sons; now I have grown old and already at the end of my life.

4 Go to Media, my son, for I am sure that Nineveh will be laid waste, as the prophet Jonah spoke; but in Media it will be calmer for the time being. Our brethren who are in the land of our homeland will be scattered from this good land; Jerusalem will be a wilderness, and the house of God in it will be burned and will remain empty for a time.

5 But again God will have mercy on them, and will bring them back to the earth; and the house of God shall be set up, not like the first, until the seasons of the world shall be fulfilled. And after that they will return from captivity and build Jerusalem magnificently, and the house of God will be restored in it for all generations of time, a majestic building, as the prophets spoke of it.

6 And all the nations shall be converted, and shall truly fear the Lord God, and shall overthrow their idols;

7 and all nations shall bless the Lord. And His people will glorify God, and the Lord will exalt His people; and all who truly and righteously love the Lord God will rejoice in showing mercy to our brethren.
