Lopukhin's explanatory Bible. OLD TESTAMENT.GENESIS

[225] This month shall be for you the beginning of months, the first shall be among you a year...

[226] Today you go out, in the month of Abib.

[227] Observe the feast of unleavened bread: for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the appointed time of the month of Abib, for in it you came out of Egypt; and let them not appear before me empty-handed;

[228] You shall observe the month of Abib, and keep the Passover to the Lord your God, for in the month of Abib the Lord your God brought you out of Egypt by night.

[229] Strive to enter in at the strait gate, for, I say to you, many will seek to enter in, and will not be able. When the master of the house gets up and shuts the doors, then you, standing outside, will knock at the door and say: Lord! God! open unto us; but He will answer and say to you, I do not know where you come from... There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves cast out.

[230] And from all countries they came to Egypt to buy corn from Joseph, for the famine had increased throughout all the land.

[231] And the hail smote all that was in the land of Egypt, all that was in the field, from man to cattle, and all the grass of the field he smote hail, and all the trees of the field he broke.

[232] It will cover the face of the earth so that it will not be possible to see the earth, and it will eat from you what remains [on the earth] that has survived from the hail; And he shall devour all the trees that are in your field;

[233] And all [the kings] of the earth sought to see Solomon, that they might hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.

[234] And in Jerusalem there were Jews, pious men, of every nation under heaven.

[235] And it came to pass, when God was destroying [all] the cities of the country round about, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of destruction, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt.

[236] And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

[237] Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel [Jacob], Thy servants, to whom Thou didst swear by Thyself, saying, "Multiplying your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land of which I have spoken, I will give unto your seed, and they shall possess [it] for ever."

[238] Remember, O Lord, David and all his contrition...
