Bible. Books of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments

12 And he said, Let us arise and go; and I will go before you.

13 And Jacob said unto him, 'My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and that my flocks and herds are milking: if I drive him one day, all the cattle shall die;

14 Let my lord go before his servant, and I will go slowly, as the cattle that are before me go, and as the children go, and I will come to my lord in Seir.

15 And Esau said, 'I will leave with you some of the men who are with me.' And Jacob said, What is the use of this? if only I could gain favor in the sight of my master!

16 And Esau returned the same day by his way to Seir.

17 And Jacob went to Succoth, and built himself a house, and made booths for his cattle. From this he called the name of the place: Succoth.

18 And Jacob, having returned from Mesopotamia, came safely to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, and encamped himself before the city.

19 And he bought a part of the field in which he pitched his tent from the children of Hamor the father of Shechem, for a hundred coins.

20 And he set up an altar there, and called upon the name of the Lord God of Israel.

Chapter 34

2 And Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her, and took her, and slept with her, and did violence to her.

3 And his soul cleaved to Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the virgin, and spoke after the virgin's heart.

4 And Shechem spake unto Hamor his father, saying, Take this maiden to my wife.
